URBANDALE, IA — Audrey DeCarlo will be honored as an inductee to the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce’s Hall of Fame. The honor is formally awarded to selected citizens at Sample Urbandale, A Celebration of Business on Thursday, September 21st. Jerry Holt, former Urbandale Fire Department Fire Chief, will also receive the award.
Audrey was born on January 23, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa, and resided on her family farm in Urbandale which is now known as the Quail Ridge development at Douglas Avenue and Patricia Drive. She graduated from the original Urbandale High School located at 70th and Douglas in 1964. After her marriage to her husband of more than 50 years, Eddie DeCarlo, they settled on Horton Avenue raising their four children, Dan, Bob, Jenny, and James, where they remained for many years.
Through the years, Audrey was always in the front row of whatever stadium, court or field her beloved J-Hawks were playing; she was known for cheering the loudest, with her big, bright smile. Even after becoming wheelchair bound and moving to Dallas Center, she never missed a chance to support Urbandale activities including United Church of Christ, Urbandale Historical Society, the Urbandale Alumni Association, and most certainly the Fourth of July celebration, where on parade day she sat at the same corner year after year.
Those who knew Audrey know the influential and supportive role she played for the community. She remained a part of the community until her passing on January 30, 2023.
Audrey’s loved ones will accept the Hall of Fame award on her behalf on Thursday, September 21st at Sample Urbandale, A Celebration of Business.
