URBANDALE, IA –The Urbandale Chamber of Commerce annually honors three businesses and select one for Business of the Year. This year, the organization is honoring Davidson Family Dentistry, Superstorm Restoration and Homemakers Furniture as the top three nominees up for Business of the Year 2022. New to 2022, the Chamber has added a Small Business of the Year award. The selected top three nominees for the first Small Business of the Year include Farrell’s Martial Arts, Imperfect Pathways, and International Veterinary Supplies. The recipients of both awards will be announced at the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce’s annual event, Sample Urbandale, A Celebration of Business.
“All six of these businesses have positively impacted the area and we are excited to honor all six during Sample Urbandale, A Celebration of Business on Thursday, November 10, 2022,” said Tiffany Menke, President Urbandale Chamber of Commerce.
Business of the Year Nominees:
Davidson Family Dentistry lists quality dentistry, affordable service, and compassionate care as their core values. Every day they strive to live up to those standards. Through quality dental care, employment opportunities, curb appeal and support of local non-profit organizations and churches, Davidson Family Dentistry is an asset to the community of Urbandale. Since moving to Urbandale in 2005, Davidson Family Dentistry has gifted more than $750,000 worth of free dental care to those in need. They have been a proud supporter of numerous organizations such as SheepGate (formerly Adult and Teen Challenge of the Midlands ), area churches, missionary and outreach programs, Iowa Mission of Mercy (IMOM), Iowa Dental Association and the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce. Dr. David Davidson served on the Iowa Dental Association as president in 2012, was on the steering committee for Iowa Mission of Mercy, and was a dental officer in the Iowa Army National Guard, deploying 3 separate times. Dr. Michael Davidson has served on the Iowa Dental Board and has been awarded “Outstanding Young Dentist”, along with Dr. Justine Stemper.
Homemakers Furniture serves as a beacon of prosperity as people enter Urbandale off of the Interstate off of Douglas Avenue. They have expanded multiple times over the years with the biggest expansion taking place in 2016 with the addition of their second warehouse. Every year Homemakers donates to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, sponsors the Urbandale 4th of July parade and the Urbandale Police Department’s National Night Out. They believe in women’s empowerment and were sponsors of the Girl Scout’s Inspiring Women event as well as provide a VTO program to allow employees to volunteer on the clock at various organizations around the metro.
Superstorm Restoration has been working in the Urbandale community for many years and has donated to and sponsored many charities in the area. This business provides complementary evaluations for any homeowner, to offer knowledge on the condition of their property. Superstorm Restoration provides honest complimentary evaluations to homeowners so that they know the condition of their home. This is essential in keeping property values up and helps the homeowner plan for future expenses. They continually give back to the community in many ways, including participation in DSM East High School Football, the Raccoon River Rally, SIDS, Avenue Scholars, Hawthorne Hill and more. Additionally, they are members of seven metro-area Chambers.
Small Business of the Year Nominees:
Farrell’s Martial Arts believes there is more to martial arts than kicking and punching. Since 1989, Farrell’s has helped instill into children and adults many vital life skills- concentration, focus, determination, character, confidence and many more. This business also believes strengthening one’s mental health is just as important as physical strength. Their main focus is to teach life skills that build stronger families and communities. They offer martial arts and TaeKwonDo classes for all ages, so that everyone in the family can participate. Farrell’s Martial Arts also gives back by donating to Toys for Tots and running a food drive for the local food bank. They also have built a strong relationship with the Urbandale School District and hold a school supplies drive, providing backpacks and more to local students.
Imperfect Pathways has given free Peer Support to First Responders, victims and other groups through Urbandale and the metro area to provide them with a system of support where they can begin healing in the knowledge they are not alone. Imperfect Pathways has provided Mental Health Education and Advocacy to help fight for the right of those struggling with their mental health. They also provided training to Child Advocates for children in our foster care system, offered suicide intervention training to help prevent suicide and provide resources for those experiencing a mental health crisis.
International Veterinary Supplies exports animal health supplies to Japan, South Africa, Europe, England, Canada, Centro and South America, Dubai and Vietnam, putting Urbandale on the map for international individuals who would’ve otherwise never known about this amazing city. IVS also supports our Iowa Economic Development Authority, as well as the U.S. Department of Commerce, by participating in international trade shows. This offers international visibility of the metro area. They also support the Iowa Dairy Association, World Pork Association, and the National Cattle Association as members or sponsors. Additionally, IVS sponsors the Urbandale 4th of July celebration annually.
