URBANDALE, IA – The Urbandale Chamber of Commerce annually honors three businesses and select one for Business of the Year.  This year, the organization is honoring Davidson Family Dentistry, Express Logistics and Homemakers Furniture as the top three nominees up for Business of the Year.

“All three of these businesses have positively impacted the area and we are excited to honor all three during Sample Urbandale, A Celebration of Business on Thursday, November 18, 2021,” said Tiffany Menke, President Urbandale Chamber of Commerce.

A bit about each nominee:

Davidson Family Dentistry employs 40 people and has donated more than 49,000 worth of in-kind dentistry so far this year.  They proudly support organizations such as Teen and Adult Challenge of the Midlands located in Colfax, area churches, missionary and outreach programs.

Express Logistics is our next honored business.  In October 2020, Express Logistics remodeled 22,000 sq feet of commercial space using many local vendors to move to Urbandale.  They are listed on the Inc. 5000 list for 2021 for the fastest growing private companies in America.  This is the 5th time making the list and the only Urbandale company to make the list in 2021.  Company culture is one of Express Logistics’ top priorities and has earned the company the Top Workplace of Iowa award for 7 consecutive years.  Part of that culture is the priority of giving back.  They celebrate their employees often by catering breakfast or lunch from Urbandale area, locally-owned restaurants. The culture of giving expands into area non-profits they support as well such as Meals from the Heartland, Urbandale Food Pantry, UCAN, Grimes Giving Tree and High School and College students through their internship program.

Homemakers Furniture employees more than 350 full time employees and are a beacon of prosperity as people enter Urbandale off of the Interstate off of Douglas Avenue.  They have expanded multiple times over the years with the biggest expansion taking place in 2016 with the addition of their second warehouse.  Today, Homemakers has more than 20 acres which encompass 215,000 square feet of retail space and two warehouses.  Every year they donate to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, sponsor the Urbandale 4th of July parade and the Urbandale Police Department’s National Night Out.  They believe in women’s empowerment and were sponsors of the Girl Scout’s Inspiring Women event.  They have a VTO program which was added this year to allow employees to volunteer on the clock at various organizations around the metro.
