URBANDALE, IA – The Urbandale Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that Todd Pettit has been awarded 2025 Citizen of the Year for his outstanding leadership, service, and dedication to the Urbandale community.
For more than 33 years, Todd has been a cornerstone of the Urbandale School District, shaping the lives of countless students as a fifth-grade teacher. From his early days at Jensen Elementary to his current role at Olmsted Elementary, Todd has cultivated a learning environment rooted in compassion, curiosity, and community. His classroom motto, “Pettit’s Pride,” embodies the values of support and trust that extend far beyond the walls of his classroom.
Todd’s influence doesn’t stop at academics. His tradition of having students write letters to their future selves, later mailed back to them years down the road, has inspired reflection and growth for generations. Outside the classroom, Todd has dedicated 25 years as a driver’s education instructor, often reconnecting with former students as they begin their journey behind the wheel.
In addition to his commitment to education, Todd has served Urbandale as a reserve lieutenant police officer. Whether on duty during community events or patrolling local neighborhoods, he has worked to build positive connections between youth, residents, and law enforcement.
Todd’s unwavering dedication to service, education, and community safety has left a lasting mark on Urbandale, making him a truly deserving recipient of the 2025 Urbandale Citizen of the Year award. His leadership and compassion continue to inspire and strengthen our city.
The Urbandale Chamber of Commerce will formally honor Todd as Urbandale Citizen of the Year at the annual Sample Urbandale, A Celebration of Business on Thursday, September 25th.
