URBANDALE, Iowa — The Urbandale Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce Joyette “Jo” Henry as the 2026 Urbandale Citizen of the Year, recognizing more than two decades of dedicated service and volunteerism throughout the Urbandale community.
Henry will be honored at Sample Urbandale on Thursday, September 17, at Stoney Creek Hotel.
Since retiring in 2010, Henry has continued to give her time and talents to organizations that make a difference in the community. Her extensive service includes UCAN, the Urbandale Historical Society and the Urbandale Schools and Alumni Foundation (URBSAF).
Henry has volunteered with UCAN as a driver, office volunteer and events committee member, helping connect residents with transportation and organizing community events. She has also served more than a decade on the Urbandale Historical Society Board, including as treasurer and chair of its annual Ice Cream Social, the organization’s largest fundraiser.
Her commitment to education spans more than two decades. Henry served on the URBSAF Board of Directors from 2011 to 2025 and continues to volunteer with the Foundation. She has also been involved with Dollars for Scholars since 2001, helping support scholarship opportunities for Urbandale students and playing an important role in the organizations’ successful unification.
Across every organization she serves, Henry is known for her compassion, reliability, organizational skills and willingness to step in wherever she is needed. Her decades of service have strengthened local organizations and positively impacted countless Urbandale residents.
The Urbandale Chamber of Commerce congratulates Joyette “Jo” Henry on being named the 2026 Urbandale Citizen of the Year and invites the community to join in celebrating her at Sample Urbandale on September 17.
