The Urbandale Chamber of Commerce surprised the 2019 Educator of the Year on May 29th with a balloon bouquet as we entered her classroom with a room-full of kids, teachers and Chamber Board members.  Mrs. Emery-Becker has been teaching elementary music since 1990.  Currently she teaches at Olmsted and Karen Acres Elementary Schools.
Her passions as an educator have always been with elementary-aged children.  Over the years, she has instilled a love of music in hundreds of students.  She is the definition of patience and lovingly implements the principals and practices of our school’s Responsive Classroom Approach.
When anyone things of Jane, the words grace, compassion, patience, kindness come to mind.  She is also the definition of a lifelong learner.  Every year, she engages in on-going professional learning and applies her new learning immediately to the classroom setting.  It is for all of these reasons, we congratulate Jane Emry-Becker as the Urbandale Chamber Educator of the Year for 2019!
Jane will be recognized in front of her peers and receive her award in the fall when the school welcomes all of the educators back.
